The Tumbling Hammer design is a highly effective rapping mechanism used in ESPs to dislodge dust and particles from the collecting and emitting electrodes. This system operates by using separate hammers to horizontally strike each row of collecting electrodes. For emitting electrodes, rapping is achieved through frames driven by a vertically aligned motor, which strikes the electrodes at strategic intervals between two levels. In this design, the rapping system ensures thorough and consistent cleaning of both collecting and emitting electrodes, leading to higher dust removal efficiency. It provides ample space inside the ESP for easier operation and maintenance, which simplifies the handling of the equipment during inspections or repairs
An advanced version of the Tumbling Hammer design includes a system where both collecting and emitting electrodes are rapped from the top. This version is available with or without a penthouse. The penthouse design helps to improve the protection of critical components, making maintenance more convenient, and safeguarding the equipment from external environmental factors. This flexibility allows for tailored installations based on the specific operational needs of different industries.
The key strength of the Tumbling Hammer system lies in its superior rapping effectiveness and robust design, which is particularly beneficial for industries handling high volumes of dust, such as cement, power, and steel plants. The hammer’s precision strikes ensure that dust is removed efficiently, keeping the system running smoothly without significant blockages or performance issues.
The EMIGI (Electromagnetic Impulse Gravity Impact) design represents a different approach to electrode cleaning in ESPs. It uses electromagnetic pulses to deliver gravitational impacts on both collecting and emitting electrodes. In this system, the rapping is done from the top for both types of electrodes, which simplifies the rapping mechanism. While this design is less complex compared to the Tumbling Hammer, its rapping effectiveness is generally lower due to the absence of dedicated hammers for each electrode row. This can lead to uneven cleaning and may result in higher maintenance requirements over time. EMIGI's simplicity can be advantageous in applications where minimal maintenance is prioritized, but it might not match the high-performance dust removal efficiency offered by the Tumbling Hammer design. EMIGI is better suited for processes with less stringent dust control requirements or where the operational environment allows for more frequent maintenance
With a range of possibilities available, choosing the most effective solution to optimize your ESP performance can be complex. Each option comes with varying investment levels, implementation challenges, and shutdown requirements, all yielding different outcomes. At GE TEK, we work closely with you to assess the pros and cons of each solution, providing the insights you need to make a well-informed decision that aligns with your operational goals and budget
